Job description:
Maintain and support IBM RS6000 servers to assure systems are operating effectively.Principal Duties:
** Design and build of UNIX based systems.
** Maintain and upgrade UNIX systems running AIX and LINUX.
** Perform ongoing backups of all production trading, developments and test UNIX servers.
** Manage all UNIX systems storage and media, ensuring disk space is well utilized for optimum performance.
** Ensure all UNIX systems have optimum performance, monitor performance and recommend upgrades as required.
** Perform all required and recommended security upgrades and log file audits on all UNIX based systems.
** Maintain detailed documentation of all physical and logical configurations of UNIX servers as well as project support documentation.
** Implement system improvements and recommend enhancements at all levels.
** Work closely with IBM, other teams in IT and business teams to maintain optimal trading system performance.
** Maintain send mail systems running in UNIX systems.
** Write and maintain scripts to support day-to-day running, as well as projects as required.
** Implement, Manage, test and maintain HACMP, or any failover systems employed, to ensure failover is as automatic as possible at the systems and applications level.
** Assist the Company with other tasks as needed.Skills required:
** At least 3 years of experience with UNIX Systems (AIX/Linux/Solaris) Administration including building, configuration, and troubleshooting. Strong knowledge of standard tools such as vi, Perl, sed, awk, bash, etc
.** A working knowledge of Windows operating systems and an understanding of interoperability between Unix servers and Windows servers (e.g. Samba, AD+LDAP, etc).
** Experience supporting an Enterprise Class, heterogeneous environment.
** A working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, and related tools (e.g. ping, traceroute, dig).
** Networking, including remote disk (NFS/Samba), remote access (ssh, ftp), Name services (DNS), configuration and troubleshooting (e.g. ping, traceroute, dig).
** Apache Web Server, Tomcat application server, and related products
** Working knowledge of at least one programming language (php, ruby, java, C, C++).
** EMC SAN experience would be a plus.
** Bachelor
**s degree related to the field is a plus.** Significant understanding of security issues relating to deployment of highly sensitive systems which contain confidential company and customer data.
** Strong organizational and communication skills; must clearly communicate Unix related technical issues with customer/clients/vendors and management.
** Skilled in troubleshooting in high-pressure production environments, and able to stay calm under these conditions.
** A creative thinker who is able to diagnose and resolve complex problems.
** Detail and process oriented, and actively supporting process improvement in all areas
.** Ability to work overtime when necessary is a must! Travel required: none
